CITY CASTLES, IN ANGERS AND SAUMUR
A lively student city, Angers overlooks the Loire and is worthy of an extended visit: the Museum of Fine Arts, the fortified castle where the famous Apocalypse hangings are exhibited, numerous events throughout the year, among lots of other things. In Saumur, enjoy the gentle life in this peaceful little town of tufa stone, sheltered beneath its imposing castle.

Following the Loire or immersing yourself in the countryside of Anjou, a long list of castles and sightseeing sites are scattered along your journey of discovery. To name but two: in Brissac-Quince, you will see from far away the very high (seven floors!) but nevertheless elegant castle remodelled and renovated since the 15th century. In Montsoreau, the tufa stones stand alongside contemporary works: since 2016 the castle has had a permanent exhibition dedicated to Conceptual Art.
