The mission of the Pays d'art et d'histoire is to enhance and promote the heritage of the entire territory: villages, churches, former industrial activities, natural sites, etc.
Two geographical and administrative entities within the department have joined forces to form the Coëvrons-Mayenne Region of Art and History : the Coëvrons and Mayenne Communauté. This region is structured around six heritage sites of regional, even national, importance, spanning from Prehistory to the 17th century:
- The Saulges Caves.
- The Gallo-Roman town of Jublains.
- The castle of Mayenne.
- The Basilica of Évron.
- The castle of Sainte-Suzanne
- The castle of Lassay-les-Châteaux
To showcase and promote the heritage of the entire territory, the Pays d'art et d'histoire offers discovery tours , thematic workshops for young audiences, guided hikes … These tours and activities are led by guides-lecturers approved by the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
